French side enter race to sign Salomon Rondon as interest increases

Marseille have joined the race to sign Salomon Rondon.

Reports in France have suggested that the Stade Velodrome club have enquired about Rondon over the weekend.

New boss Andres Villas-Boas is currently putting together a shortlist of players ahead of his first big season in Ligue 1.

Rondon, who played for Venezuela in their 0-0 draw with Peru at the weekend, is scheduled to return to West Bromwich Albion in pre-season.

He has one year left of his contract at West Brom but has a £16.5millon release clause in his current arrangement.

Fresh talk of a swap deal for Dwight Gayle emerged over the weekend although the Baggies stated publicly last month they had no interest in the former Crystal Palace man.

Rafa Benitez has Rondon near the top of his wanted list should he decide to stay on as boss, but the South American’s agent is waiting until after the Copa America tournament in Brazil before making any final decisions.
