French player cited for alleged headbutt on Welsh forward during volatile European clash

A Pau player has been cited for an alleged headbutt on Cardiff Blues prop Kieron Assiratti during Saturday’s controversial Challenge Cup clash out in France.

Loosehead Geoffrey Moise is alleged to have struck replacement tighthead Assiratti with his head in a dangerous manner in the 47th minute of the volatile Pool 5 encounter at Stade du Hameau.

The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Wayne Sheridan, of Ireland, and Moise’s hearing will be carried out by an independent Disciplinary Committee at the London office of Bird & Bird LLP on Thursday.

Former France centre Yannick Jauzion will be part of the panel, along with chairman Gareth Graham, of England, and Romania’s Val Toma.

Striking with the head carries the following sanction entry points: Low End - 6 weeks; Mid-range - 10 weeks; Top end - 16 to 104 weeks.

The Blues expressed concern following Saturday’s game that there was no TMO in place and, as a result, potential acts of foul play went unreviewed.

One of those was the incident that has now seen Moise cited.

Video refs are only in place where a match is televised live and that is not the case for a number of matches in the second-tier Challenge Cup.

Meanwhile, Worcester prop Ethan Waller will go before a disciplinary hearing tomorrow following his sending off for striking Dragons flanker Cory Hill with his shoulder on the weekend.

Three Northampton players - lock Lewis Bean and centres Andy Symons and Matt Proctor - have been cited in the wake of the club’s Champions Cup defeat to Leinster at the Aviva Stadium.
