Sofia Kenin will take on teenager Iga Swiatek in the women’s singles final of the French Open on Saturday.

Kenin defeated Petra Kvitova 6-4 7-5 in the pair’s semi-final on the clay of Roland Garros in Paris on Thursday, giving the American a shot at a second Grand Slam title – and second this year.

Kenin, 21, won her maiden major trophy in January when she went all the way at the Australian Open.

Nineteen-year-old Swiatek, meanwhile, achieved a dominant victory over Nadia Podoroska to reach her first Slam final.

Poland’s Swiatek thrashed 2018 French Open champion Simona Halep in the quarter-finals and carried momentum into her contest against Podoroska, who had become the first ever qualifier to reach the last eight in the women’s singles at Roland Garros.

Swiatek dismissed Podoroska with ease, ending the Argentine’s dream run with a 6-2 6-1 win in a little over an hour.

Kenin will be the favourite to lift the trophy on Saturday, but all of the pressure will be on the American, whose Australian Open title in January came at the expense of two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza.

The men’s singles final follows on Sunday and will be contested between the winners of Novak Djokovic’s semi-final against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal’s final-four match against Diego Schwartzman.
