French kids tell us their Covid-19 stories

FRANCE IN FOCUS © FRANCE 24

This week, we're taking a look at the Covid-19 crisis from a child's perspective. Between new and daunting ways of schooling, closed-down play areas, cancelled holidays and the arrival of worrying face masks, the end of lockdown hasn't brought much relief to France's younger generation, who have their own take on events. We hear from a few of them.

While children make up just a fraction of France's confirmed Covid-19 cases, the crisis has had an impact on French youth as a whole, not least from the standpoint of mental health. To find out more about that, we talk to psychotherapist Hélène Romano, who specialises in traumatic experience, in particular among children.

Finally, for fear of the virus, many French parents have chosen to keep their children out of school, but also away from medical practices – and doctors have flagged a significant drop in vaccinations and necessary check-ups. A form of withdrawal that's especially worrying in the case of abused children, for whom the experience of confinement was particularly grim.
