French football expert says Arsenal loanee is showing old habits that led to Mikel Arteta feud

French pundit Daniel Riolo says Arsenal loanee Matteo Guendouzi is starting to lose his form at Olympique Marseille, and is once again starting to show bad habits.

Guendouzi joined the Unai Emery revolution back in the summer of 2019 before quickly establishing himself as one of the Gunners’ brightest prospects.

He showcased his worth by displaying an ability to play the ball forward quickly, as well as be direct in the centre of midfield.

However, the 22-year-old soon found himself low down the pecking order under Arsenal’s current boss Mikel Arteta.

Reports emerged that the Spaniard had become disillusioned with the youngster and his behaviour, especially after he clashed with fellow Frenchman Neal Maupay during the Gunners’ 2-1 loss to Brighton in June of last year.

He has subsequently been made to endure two loan spells, the first of which was in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin, whilst he is now on a season long-loan at Marseille – the deal includes an obligation to buy.

Guendouzi started the season brightly with his new club, but following an incident in Marseille’s 3-2 loss to Lens on Sunday, Riolo thinks that he is showing signs of petulance once again.

"Guendouzi, we criticised a lot. I saw him in the four corners of the pitch, that's being generous,” he told RMC, via Tribal Football.

"I've seen the old one for two games: the one who gives orders to everyone, who shoots when you shouldn't shoot, who wants too much to be the boss, the show.

"It's a bit as if we could never change in the end, nature always catches up with you."

As Arteta has now established a sense of harmony in the Gunners’ dressing room, his decision to allow Guendouzi to leave the Emirates may in fact be justified.
