French football expert on why Sabri Lamouchi could prove to be a hit with Nottingham Forest

French football expert Julien Laurens says Sabri Lamouchi's man management style gives him the potential to be a success with Nottingham Forest.

The 47-year-old was named as the Reds new boss on Friday, just 18 minutes after Martin O'Neill's departure was confirmed by the club.

But to most he was unknown character prior to his City Ground appointment, having only had previous managerial experience with club in France, Qatar and a stint as Ivory Coast boss.

"He had a very good career as a player, he was a very intelligent midfielder who was very hard working," Laurens told BBC5Live.

"He made quite a good debut as a manager with Ivory Cost, but also he went to Rennes and saved their season two seasons ago.

"He got sacked in December but more so because he was not on the same page as the club and the sporting director more than anything else really.

"But he is someone who is very demanding with his own players, who plays quite attractive football, even though he is quite pragmatic in how he wants his teams to play."

With O'Neill at the helm, Forest had a manager with plenty of experience of the English game.

But now with Lamouchi in charge, it is clear that the Reds will have to endure a period of transition with both club and player needing time to adjust.

"It is a very interesting choice," Laurens added. "He is very good in his man management - even with the language barrier at the start, although I believe his English is okay.

"His man management is very good, it is one of Sabri Lamouchi's assets, and then he will work hard, that is for sure.

"He will work hard and it will take him some time. It is a very difficult and long league, but I think it is a interesting choice."
