French club provide update on reported Nottingham Forest target Brice Samba

Reported Nottingham Forest target Brice Samba was left out of Caen’s matchday squad for their Ligue 2 clash with Lorient last night.

But the French club were coy when asked about the goalkeeper’s future.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a switch to the City Ground – as well as Reds boss Sabri Lamouchi’s former team Rennes and fellow French side Montpellier.

Reports in France in the last few days have claimed Samba is due to travel to England with a view to completing a move.

The shot-stopper was pictured in the stands watching his team lose 2-1, with boss Rui Almeida explaining: “For a player to play, I need to feel that he is 100 percent.”

Caen president Fabrice Clement is quoted by French media outlet actu as saying after the match: “As of today there is no definitive thing for Brice Samba. Are there contacts? Obviously. With him as with others.

“The English transfer window ends Thursday. I thought I saw two things move through other clubs.”

The report adds that Samba’s departure from Caen is imminent, saying he will “commit to the English club Nottingham Forest”.

The Reds already have four keepers on their books, having signed Arijanet Muric on loan from Manchester City this summer, as well as currently retaining the services of Costel Pantilimon, Luke Steele and Jordan Smith.

The club are though, hoping to trim at least one shot-stopper from the squad before Thursday’s deadline.
