French woman told to 'go back to her own country' during verbal attack

A 48-year-old man called a French citizen "a b***h" and to "go back to her own country", a court heard.

The details of Neil Atkin's offending were heard at Nottingham Magistrates' Court as a judge decided not a grant him bail on New Year's Eve.

He pleaded guilty to a course of conduct which amounted to racially-aggravated harassment on December 30 this year.

Atkin further admitted he verbally abused the victim - which he was prevented from doing by a restraining order on the same date.

Atkin, of St James Terrace, Stapleford, committed the offences in his street.

Andy Conboy, prosecuting, said Atkin had also used the "N" word and it "demonstrated a racial hostility".

"The restraining order was for exactly the same behaviour".

The court heard that Atkin has a mental health condition.

Judge Leo Pyle told Atkin he wanted a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the Probation Service and will leave all sentencing options available. He has asked the CPS to get an up-to-date personal statement.

A judge or magistrates will deal with him at a sentencing hearing on January 19 at 10am.
