French air traffic control strikes could mean Brits face flight delays this week

French air traffic control strikes could cause flight delays for Brits, with industrial action expected to affect some flights to and from France, as well as those flying through French airspace.

The strikes are due to kick off at 6pm on Wednesday 4th March and will continue through to 5.30am on Monday 9th March 2020.

Union USACcgt is behind the industrial action, with its members looking to protest the French government's proposals for pension reform. The union has described the reform as an "affront" and "unacceptable".

easyJet has already warned its passengers that there may be some disruption to its schedule, as 65 per cent of its flights go through French airspace.

The airline said it would contact affected customers directly via Email and SMS, but that passengers could also use the airline's flight tracker to find out if their flight is affected. The airline said that 65 per cent of its flights operate through French air space.

British Airways and Ryanair currently have not advised of any changes to their schedules.

If you are due to travel to France or think your flight may be affected, make sure you know your rights if your flight is affected by strikes , for both delays and cancellations.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled in this instance you may not be eligible for compensation as the strikes are out of the airline's control, so they may be able to claim extraordinary circumstances.

Holidaymakers are already facing uncertainty around their travel plans following coronavirus outbreaks around the world.

A host of airlines have been forced to cancel flights after the FCO changed its travel advice to China, South Korea and parts of northern Italy, advising against travel.
