Fremantle's Lachie Neale wins second Geoff Christian Medal

Lachie Neale with the Geoff Christian Medal after winning the award for the 2018 AFL season.

Fremantle's Lachie Neale has won ABC Perth's Geoff Christian Medal, joining the likes of Paul Hasleby, Matthew Pavlich, Daniel Kerr, Matthew Priddis and Nat Fyfe as the only players to have earned the honour twice.

Neale, who previously received the award in 2016, won this year's medal with a total of 23 votes ahead of Dockers teammate Nat Fyfe (19) and West Coast's Elliot Yeo (19).

He polled in 10 of the Dockers' 22 hone-and-away matches, receiving a maximum three votes on five occasions.

Neale's season was highlighted by a career-best 667 disposals and a spot in the 40-man All-Australian squad.

Fremantle had 21 players receive votes throughout 2018, while West Coast had 18.

The Geoff Christian Medal is awarded by ABC Perth for the best Fremantle or West Coast player during the season.

Votes are allocated each week on a 3-2-1 basis by the station's expert AFL commentators.

The medal was established in recognition of Geoff Christian, a valued member of ABC Radio's Sports Talk program for a period of 14 years prior to his death in November 1998.

Christian served as chief football writer for The West Australian newspaper from 1961 to 1998 and was posthumously inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.
