Fremantle coach Ross Lyon fails to dampen speculation he is planning to jump ship

Speculation around the future of Fremantle coach Ross Lyon is likely to grow after he refused to confirm or deny if other clubs had spoken to him about the possibility of jumping ship from the Dockers.

Calls for Lyon's sacking have grown louder among Dockers fans in recent weeks, with the club likely to miss the finals for a fourth straight year.

With eight wins and nine losses, Fremantle is a game and percentage outside the top eight with five games to play, and will start as underdog in Sunday's clash with the Western Bulldogs at Docklands.

There have been numerous reports other clubs are considering a move to lure Lyon away from the Dockers, despite him having another year to run on his contract.

Lyon's former club, St Kilda, is looking for a coach for 2020, along with Carlton and North Melbourne.

When asked if any of those clubs had approached him or his management, Lyon refused to give a direct answer.

"I don't see the need, [nor am I] prepared to talk about anything else other than the game, and I'm contracted and committed to Fremantle," he said.

"So outside of that statement, everything's a moot point, so I'm not interested.

"There are agendas to move me on and get me out of the club, apparently there's noise that I'm required in Melbourne, [but] I'm committed to my contract."

Lyon said those speculating about his future beyond the end of his contract in 2020 were failing to consider a number of factors.

"[Those are] a) that I want to continue as an AFL coach; b) that I want to coach here; and c) that I need to coach," he said.

"They're all assumptions that people are making.

"So I'm committed to my job, I'm committed to Fremantle, I'm committed to [captain] Nat Fyfe, and committed to improving.

"I'm not here to talk any more hypothetical, because it's actually getting boring, and it's taking away from the job at hand which is coaching."

An under-strength Dockers side overcame Sydney by one point last weekend.

They are set for a boost in the clash with the Bulldogs, with Lyon saying Fyfe and Rory Lobb were likely to recover from injury and fellow ruckman Aaron Sandilands was a good chance of playing his first away game for the year.
