Freight and food supply update after 500 lorries left waiting on M20

Around 500 lorries were waiting on the M20 following the closure of Port of Dover last night.

At 11pm on Sunday night, all traffic was stopped from leaving the UK as a result of the new coronavirus strain which seems to be causing a spike in cases in the south east.

The PM said: "It’s vital to stress that these delays at Dover only effect human handled frieght.

"This works out as roughly 25% of all goods that come into the country."

Mr Johnson confirmed the supermarkets have a robust process in place to make sure they have enough stock.

He added: "It's also true the risks associated with a single driver sitting alone in a cab are very low."

Height in Kent on motorway queuing 500-odd as of last night, and now around 174, with an additional few in holding.

He said what had happened today was the equivalent of what happened in very severe weather.
