Freeview update gives you free music, radio and podcasts on demand through your TV

With the UK going into its second wave of lockdown, many Brits will find themselves struggling to stay entertained while at home.

But help is at hand, thanks to a new addition to Freeview - BBC Sounds.

The update means that Freeview viewers can now listen to music, radio and podcasts through their Freeview Play device.

Simon Hunt, the Director of Strategy and Business Development for Freeview Play, said: “We are so pleased to be launching BBC Sounds on Freeview Play.

“We are now home to nine content players, delivering thousands of hours of on-demand content, all for free. There has never been a better time to become a Freeview Play viewer.”

BBC Sounds includes live and on-demand radio from over 50 BBC stations, music mixes curated by experts, artists and special guests, and a range of award-winning podcasts.

The app also offers a personalised experience, with recommendations based on previous listening, and a Continue Listening feature.

And if you want to listen to a particularly funny podcast or a catchy song again, you can simply skip forwards of rewind 20 seconds.

BBC Sounds joins a host of content players that are already available on Freeview Play, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4 and My5.

BBC Sounds is rolling out across Freeview Play this week, with full coverage coming soon.

Your Freeview Play device will update automatically.
