Freeview down: Hundreds complain as 'high pressure weather' leaves customers across UK without TV

Hundreds of Freeview users are complaining that they are unable to watch their favourite TV shows after "high pressure weather" affected the service.

The television provider has acknowledged the problem, saying the current weather across the UK can cause picture break-up or loss of channels.

Huge numbers of customers have been reporting problems with Freeview since around 3pm on Sunday, according to Downdetector.

One user in Stoke-on-Trent tweeted: "Can't get a picture and retuning TV makes it worse."

Another user said: "What's going on with Freeview in the Medway area. Very limited almost non-existent service for 3 days now."

In a statement, the TV service said: "Current high pressure weather conditions across the UK can cause picture break up or loss of channels for some viewers.

"If you are affected please do not retune your TV, as reception will improve with the weather."

It added that the conditions may continue throughout the week.

The firm said that viewers still facing problems can watch live and on-demand TV through players such as BBC iPlayer and ITV hub on internet-connected Freeview Play TV.
