Freens: Ayrshire's smallest and most stylish cafe opens its doors

What's believed to be Ayrshire's smallest cafe has opened its doors to the public.

Freens started serving on Monday in one of the tiniest hospitality spaces in the region.

Measuring in at 22 m sq. — including the kitchen and serving area — the Bellfield eaterie is so small that it's only open for takeaway with no room for seats or tables.

The titchy tearoom on New Street serves up hot rolls, burgers, cakes, muffins and all manner of sweet treats along with toasties, paninis, ice cream and a range of hot drinks.

The cafe is also named after the Scottish word for friends.

Previously an office and stock room for the Day Today shop, owner Mrs Humera Ali had plans to open the cafe approved by East Ayrshire Council planners in April this year.

Designed and decorated to a high spec, the venue's journey from stock room to eaterie has been documented on the cafe's Instagram page.
