'Freedom Rally' protesting against coronavirus restrictions set to take place in Nottingham

A 'Freedom Rally' in opposition to coronavirus restrictions is being held in Nottingham later today.

Organisers are calling on Nottingham to "stand up" and "take back your rights", referring to the government restrictions in place due to the pandemic.

The county is currently subject to Tier 3 restrictions and is classed as a "very high risk area" by the Government.

Previous protests over coronavirus have taken place in Old Market Square, first on September 14 and then later on October 3.

Here's what you need to know ahead of the planned rally.

When and where is it taking place?

The rally will start at 1pm on Sunday, December 13, at the Forest Rec.

The organisers of the event are asking the public to bring pans, drums, horns, whistles, megaphones and tambourines.

A poster for the event reads: "Stand up Nottingham. Take back your rights. If you don't know your rights, you don't have any".

Who will be speaking?

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's brother Piers will be there and is expected to speak to those attending.

Other advertised speakers include Rasta Pastor, Geza Tarajanyi, Terry Calladine and Shukeel Chohan.

This isn't the first time Piers Corbyn has appeared in Nottingham to protest government restrictions. He visited the city back in October for a similar type of event in Old Market Square.

There were around 100 protesters who attended that event.

Will police be there?

Nottinghamshire Police will likely be in attendance at the rally.

Large gatherings of people are against the Tier 3 restrictions guidelines, with the right to lawfully protest allowed only if they are held safely and in line with government guidance.

Before the previous protest, the force contacted the organisers to encourage rules are followed.

We'll be providing live updates from throughout the rally on our website.
