A free weight management service is now available in Ayrshire to help empower adults to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle.
Rowlands Forehill, Ayr, have launched the service to offer free advice to help those who may not know where to start with their health journey, offering support in a friendly, non-judgemental environment.
Research conducted by the pharmacy flagged that almost half (49 per cent) of adults living in Scotland admit to feeling self-conscious about their weight, but over a third (32 per cent) said they don’t feel confident enough to talk to a healthcare professional.
Support offered at the Ayr pharmacy could be anything from advice on holistic lifestyle changes to recommending treatments such as Lipotrim and prescription medication designed to help with weight loss.
Nigel Swift, managing director of Rowlands, said: “Not a lot of people realise that they can approach their local pharmacist for weight management advice.
“It is so important that people feel comfortable enough to make that first approach for advice and guidance – particularly if they have any underlying health concerns linked to their weight that they would like to change.
“Our new weight management service is designed to help all those setting out on a new weight loss journey but also those who have struggled to find a plan that works for them.
“We look forward to welcoming members of the local community and providing everyone with the individual guidance they need.”
The pharmacy chain has also teamed up with TV medic, Dr Dawn Harper, to help with the supporting launch campaign.
She said: “Pharmacies are fantastic spaces to speak freely and openly about any weight concerns.
“Starting a weight loss journey or plan with support from a healthcare professional is a valuable step to take.
“Rowlands’ launch campaign really helps to break down and address the myths often attached to weight loss and I do hope it encourages lots of people to take a pharmacy-first approach to addressing weight loss this New Year.”
