On Facebook group Crimewatch Liverpool the man wrote: "My postman has just knocked with a parcel addressed to my son.

"He told me he thinks it's some kind of scam as he's had about 15 recently all from Bulgaria.

"I didn't accept the package and don't know what the scam could be.

"We opened the parcel slightly and it was a cheap thin small top, as I say I don't know what the scam is but just beware."

A number of ECHO readers suggested that the T-shirts were arriving as part of a scam called "brushing".

What is 'Brushing'?

The "brushing" scam involves sellers on sites such as Amazon and eBay setting up accounts in a stranger’s name, then sending their products to an unsuspecting recipient.

According to consumer rights website Which? , they then use this account they’ve set up to write fake ‘verified reviews’ in a bid to improve their seller ratings.

In this case, it’s likely that the member’s name and address had been leaked somewhere.

What to do if you’re a victim of ‘brushing’

It’s always good to be cautious where personal data is concerned, so anyone who receives a parcel should change their passwords for these sites and update any security settings.

Identity theft is a serious threat as once a criminal has access to your personal information, they can do everything from open an account in your name and run up debt, or use it to get copies of your official documents.

Reporting the scam helps the website they are being run through to clamp down on the offenders.
