Free stuff, messy customers and being rude: Morrisons employee reveals 16 things supermarket staff don’t want you to know

Anyone who's worked in a supermarket will know that it can sometimes be a testing experience.

From keeping the floor tidy to dealing with sometimes aggravated customers, there's always something to deal with, and more often than not Morrisons employees somehow manage to do it with huge smiles on their faces. Bravo.

However, one shop assistant for the supermarket has now revealed the behind-the-scenes niggles which you might not know about.

The latest urgent product recalls

In an interview with Kent Live, the worker shed light on 16 things which may make you see the supermarket giant in a completely different way.

Here's what they had to say...

1. Sometimes we don't know where some of the more obscure items are

"I don't want to accompany you to the right aisle to help find the exact item you're looking for, but I have to. Sometimes I don't even know where things are - especially the obscure stuff."

2. When you ask us if we have something and we know we don't have it in stock, sometimes we'll look in the back anyway

"When you ask us to check the storeroom for something, we don't actually look. Or if we do we also take a little break in the back. It's deserved."

3. When the store is quiet sometimes we hide in the warehouse

"Working the graveyard shift comes with certain perks. One of them being hiding in the warehouse with your other colleagues."

4. Sometimes we eat the food

"A box of Celebrations has broken and exploded all over the shop floor? Oh no... guess that's going somewhere discreet in the warehouse for snack time later..."

5.  Messy customers can be frustrating

"No, please, don't worry as I clear up this smashed bottle of red wine from the shop floor. Oh and you dropped a dog food tin in the next aisle? Cool, don't worry about helping."

6. Customers who graze while they shop can make the checkout process longer

"You have to touch the grubby packaging when you put it through the till. Great."

7. A lot of people don't enjoy being on the tills

8. Having to organise new stock in order of sell by date can be a pain

"It's so much easier just to stuff all of the new stuff at the front."

9. No, we can't give you free stuff

"Even if it doesn't scan. We can't give you our discount either so stop asking."

10. We see you trying to get into the store at 3.59pm on Sundays

11. We have to ask you if you want help packing

12. Huffing at me won't make me scan your shopping quicker

13. If you're rude to me, I'll make you explode in my head

"It's just one therapeutic technique us cashiers like to employ when we really can't say what we want to to your face.

Instead we'll just smile overtly and make you disappear with our minds..."

14. I have to ID you if you look under 25

"We have to ID you if you look under 25 - because if we don't and you actually are underage, we get fined. I don't care when your birthday is or how many years you've been on the planet, this is purely self preservation and admin."

15. We do have to pay for our lunches

Please stop asking if lunch is free.

16. Hovering near us while we're reducing items will not speed up the process
