Free shuttle service launched in Edinburgh's Stockbridge after buses diverted due to works

A free shuttle service is now available in Stockbridge to compensate for bus diversions after major works got underway in January.

The essential works are part of a £2.2 million upgrade, carried out by SGN to improve the gas network in the area by replacing old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipes.

The project is being carried out in two phases, with the gas company estimating that the project will take a total of 30 weeks.

With the first phase of the works completed, a raft of new road closures, diversions and parking restrictions are now in place.

Raeburn Place is closed to westbound traffic and there are additional diversions via Kerr Street, Circus Plan and Dundas Street.

The works have halted key transport links from the area into the city centre, including the 24, 29, 42.

However, SGN are now providing a free shuttle service that stops off at key bus connections; it will travel via Comely Bank Road, Raeburn Place, Kerr Street, Dean Park Crescent and Orchard Brae.

The Stockbridge shuttle runs between 8.30am and 5.30pm Tuesday-Saturday and will visit each stop on the route three times an hour.

In a statement on Twitter, SGN said: "If you're visiting the Stockbridge area of Edinburgh today, remember our free Stockbridge Shuttle bus service is available between 8.30am to 5.30pm for those travelling eastbound on Comley Bank Road and Raeburn Place."
