You can stay in Shrek's swamp in the Highlands for Halloween

UP to three guests will be able to stay in a recreation of Shrek’s swamp in the Highlands this Halloween.

Airbnb, in partnership with Dreamworks Animation – where the popular franchise was created – has created a replica of Shrek’s home in a mystery location in the Highlands. The National: The first Shrek film was released 22 years agoThe first Shrek film was released 22 years ago (Image: Alix McIntosh)

People will be able to request to book a two-night stay for up to three guests between October 27-29.

The stay will cost nothing, in what Airbnb call “a nod to the priceless refuge Shrek’s swamp has provided fairytale creatures of all kinds”.

Whilst the stay is free, guests are responsible for their own travel to and from the location.

The swamp, which mirrors the treehouse style seen in the film franchise, includes a rustic interior with a double bed, wooden table, fireplace, as well as a separate toilet facility 20 meters away from the main building to mirror “Shrek’s trusted outhouse”.The National:

Airbnb has also pledged to make a one-time donation to the HopScotch Children’s Charity, which provides some of Scotland’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children with respite breaks through nurturing and holiday trips.

The four Shrek films have earned more than $2.9 billion since the first film was released in 2001.

Guests can request to book Shrek’s Swamp beginning October 13 at 6pm. More information can be found here.
