Free school meals Glasgow: eligible families to receive £25 per child fortnightly during lockdown

Glasgow families with children eligible for free school meals will receive £25 per child every two weeks from Glasgow City Council from the end of this month.

The local authority confirmed the updated plans due to lockdown restrictions, which have resulted in schools being closed.

Payments will begin on January 22 before being given on a fortnightly basis until schools are reopened. Families eligible for the support must complete an online application here.

A statement from the council reads: "The council has announced additional funding for children currently in receipt of Free School Meals (FSM) to receive fortnightly payments of £25 per child to support them during the current lockdown restrictions and subsequent closure of schools. If you recently received the winter payment of £120 direct into your bank account, you will automatically receive this new payment and you do not need to contact us, or make a new application."

The council has also released an update about its clothing grant available for eligible families, confirming that most families will have payments made electronically, with all new applications to be made online here.

The statement reads: "Most customers now have their grants paid directly into their bank account via BACS, offering quick and easy access. Any future grant payments must now be via BACS, therefore please complete our online enquiry form to provide your bank details."
