Free pass for Premchai

Re: 'Threat to justice', (Editorial, April 9).

I concluded with my usual ho-hum attitude, and turned the page. The Premchai Karnasuta case has raised a lot of public awareness, as well as outrage, only to result in five charges being dropped.

Truthfully, if anyone out there expects "justice", that person must be utterly naive. One follows the Thai proverb, "Money talks, justice walks".

Now, if Mr Premchai was a poor mushroom picker, five extra charges would have been found (or fabricated). Get real, folks. No one with money or power in Thailand has ever been brought to justice. They never have, nor ever will be. That is the simple truth. Live with it, and pray you will not be next.

PM must fix Doi Suthep

Re: "Doi Suthep project damages our judiciary", (Opinion, April 9).

Since the Courts of Justice committee has decided it has no power to cancel the construction of the courts' housing and office building project in Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha should use the power accorded him under Section 44 of the interim charter to order the demolition of the project as well as return the destroyed forested area to its previous condition.

Only PM Prayut can right this wrong.

This project is an example of how some of the laws of our country, which were written by the few, and for the selfish benefit of the few, have the potential to affect and destroy the livelihoods of millions of people. This devious transgression must be stopped.

We the people of Chiang Mai will not let up in our objection to the destruction of Doi Suthep-Pui Sanctuary -- which also houses the beautiful Bhubing Royal Palace and the revered Doi Suthep Temple.

If the government cannot solve this problem, we will consider forwarding our petition to His Majesty King Rama X -- for his royal kindness and consideration.

The government should be solemnly reminded of the seriousness of this situation.

Slow up at City Hall

An article in the Bangkok Post's April 10 edition says Bangkok authorities have called for reducing speed limits at city hall from 80km/h to 50km/h. From my personal experience, I wonder whether the zeros on those speeds have been added by mistake?

Human rights sham

Re: "Whistleblowers punished", (PostBag, April 8).

In his letter, David Brown's last sentence was: "Standing up for what is right and proper just doesn't work in Thailand."

He hit the nail on the head! Nothing has really changed over the 50 years I have been on the scene here. In part, I fault HRW, AI, CPJ and others for basically only being mouthpieces for human rights while ignoring the need to physically stand side by side with human rights activists in court as co-plaintiffs. It is vital for such organisations to have their names on court documents and in the press to both make a statement and to really demonstrate meaningful, actual and public support.

A poison pen

Re: "Poisoned daughter better, UK-Russia ties worsen", (BP, April 8).

There is no more truth in the poisoning of the Syrian people by Bashar al-Assad than the poisoning of the Skripals by the Russians.

The only parties benefiting from this action are the ones waging a war of aggression against the Syrian government. Moreover, the story is being reported by the notorious pro-Taliban anti-Assad White Helmets.

The false flags concocted by the globalist warmongers and their lackeys from the EU would be boring if it wasn't for the press peddling this fake news, doing the bidding of their corporate masters.
