Free parking scheme ends for critical workers in Nottingham city centre

A free parking scheme introduced during the Covid pandemic for critical workers in Nottingham has been brought to an end.

In line with national guidance, Nottingham City Council has been running a free parking permit scheme for NHS and social care workers, and others providing direct support to help vulnerable people in Nottingham communities.

The national scheme ended on June 21, and this date was not affected by the Government’s decision to delay the next stage of the roadmap.

It means critical workers can still park in the same locations, but will be required to pay for parking or consider other modes of transport.

Councillor Rosemary Healy, Portfolio Holder for Transport, said: “The Government is no longer running the Critical Worker free parking scheme and charges have resumed for critical workers.

"However, we have many parking offers available to commuters, or alternative modes of transport are available, such as the bus or tram.

“We’re continuing to monitor the ongoing effects of the pandemic on travel and safe parking in the city, and our team is ready to react as necessary if anything changes.”
