Free parking permits issued to Nottingham hospital staff

Nottingham City Council has issued parking permits for hospital staff as they work through the coronavirus pandemic.

Concerns from people living in properties around Nottingham’s City Hospital had previously lead to resident parking schemes.

The remaining streets were due to be permitted but following the outbreak this is now “under review”.

Special NHS Covid-19 permits have now been issued by Nottingham City Council for essential staff at City Hospital to allow them to park in areas around the hospital where there is space.

The scheme will be in place for an initial three-month period.

It means key NHS workers will not need to take public transport or face parking charges while they tackle coronavirus.

Permits have also been issued for staff at Queen’s Medical Centre where necessary.

Portfolio Holder for Transport Cllr Adele Williams said: “There are long-standing parking issues raised by residents living in the streets surrounding City Hospital. To address this we have implemented residents parking permits in some areas and are looking to expand that to other streets.

“Given the current Coronavirus crisis, any expansion of residents parking schemes around the hospital is currently under review. We are also supplying the City Hospital with special NHS Covid-19 permits which will allow essential staff to park in the areas surrounding the hospital, spaces permitting, for an initial three-month period. We are also providing permits to the QMC where similar issues exist.”
