Free parking in Salford introduced on Saturdays for Christmas shoppers

Weekend parking charges have been scrapped for shoppers across Salford in the run up to Christmas.

Salford City Council is lifting its fees at seven pay-and-display sites for three Saturdays in December.

It’s all aimed at giving a welcome boost to the city’s small businesses.

That’s according to Salford Mayor Paul Dennett, who said the firms had had a ‘difficult year’.

“It has been such a difficult year for small traders,” said the directly-elected Labour politician. “I hope this encourages people to shop locally but safely to support Salford businesses.”

Notices advising the change will be put up in the seven car parks, in Eccles, Monton, Pendleton, and Swinton.

The three Saturdays parking will be free are December 4, 11, and 18.

Despite the relaxation of charges, other rules apply.

They include parking within properly marked bays and displaying a Blue Badge if you have one.

The seven car parks included are:

  • Partington Street, Monton

  • John William Street, Eccles

  • Eccles Precinct

  • St Mary’s Road, Eccles

  • Irwell Place, Eccles

  • Hankinson Way, Salford

  • Church Street, Swinton
