Free Marmite being handed out at the Ashes to prove it's better than Vegemite

As the nation's most loved (or hated) breakfast spread, Marmite has given up the fight against its protesters, and instead moved on to the battle against Vegemite.

For the next six weeks, Marmite's new ‘Marmy Army’ is getting ready to secret convert Australians into loving the polarising spread.

To do so, the Mar-mighty team will be heading to matches to hand out complimentary jars of the yeasty and delicious toast topping spread to help convince Aussies that there really is no salty spread quite like it.

You can find them dishing out the goods at outside the UK’s major cricket grounds, and we've got the full list of locations and timings below.

So even if you're not interested in the cricket, local and loyal Marmite fans can still head to the stadium, complete with their most convincing Aussie accents, and pick up a jar of the beautifully rich and umami British delicacy for free, which would usually set them back a hefty £1.70 in shops.

The full list of locations includes:

  • First Test - August 1-5 (Edgbaston)
  • Second Test - August 14-18 (Lord's)
  • Third Test - August 22-26 (Headingley)
  • Fourth Test - September 4-8 (Old Trafford)
  • Fifth Test - September 12-16 (The Oval)

Camilla Williamson, Brand Manager at Marmite, said: “At a time when we expect unprecedented amounts of fans of Marmite’s Australian counterpart to congregate in one place, we could not resist the opportunity to encourage Aussie’s to try the iconic taste of Britain’s favourite toast topper, Marmite.”

“We feel confident that our savoury spread is superior that we’re even hoping to convince Australian’s to switch up their current breakfast choices, making Marmite a staple in kitchen cupboards both for expat Aussie’s here and Down Under.”
