Free lunches handed out, as long as you promise it won't be a sandwich

    What did you have for lunch today? And yesterday? And the day before that?

    If you answered the same way for all three days, you're far from alone.

    Because it turns out that as a country an awful lot of people choose the same sandwich every day.

    As part of British Sandwich Week , food brand Prep Co decided to ask the public about their lunch choices.

    They discovered one person in three chooses a sandwich for lunch, with nearly half of them (49%) eating the same thing every day for at least three years.

    In a bid to help break Brits their sandwich addiction, it decided to give away 2,000 alternative lunches to people promising to try that instead of their usual meat and two breads. You can sign up here .

    Lena Portchmouth, founder of Prep Co , said: “Finding a healthy lunch alternative can be difficult, but we deserve better than the average options currently available on the high street."

    Britain's sandwich habits

    Here are some of the key facts about the nation's lunchtime sandwich habit, that Preo Co found:

    • Cost : £2 or more each
    • Top filling : Ham and Cheese (23%) followed by chicken and bacon (21%), cheese and onion (19%), tuna sweetcorn (19%)
    • Most popular in : Sandwich (the town in Kent) where 45% of people choose them for lunch
