Free Krispy Kreme doughnuts on offer all week and here's how to claim the treat

Popular chain Krispy Kreme is offering a sweet treat to anyone who has had a birthday during lockdown and there's no dough involved - for the customer anyway.

The doughnut maker, which has a main store in Eldon Square, Newcastle, is marking its own birthday this summer and to help it celebrate it is offering freebies to those who also have had birthdays between the outbreak of Covid-19 and early July.

With so many having missed out on their own celebrations while being stuck in the house, the company has decided to lay on a glazed doughnut gift - free of charge - all week starting this Monday - the date of its own anniversary.

All that customers need to do is to take along some ID, showing their birth date, to a Krispy Kreme outlet and make a purchase - of anything - to receive their complimentary original glazed doughnut.

The offer runs from Monday, July 13 until Sunday, July 19 and applies to those with a birthday between March 23 and July 3.

The company, whose local shops include one at The Bridges in Sunderland as well as outlets in supermarkets region-wide, says that around 22m Brits have so far had a birthday during lockdown and one in 10 did not celebrate it; being unable to get together with friends and family.

Chief executive officer Richard Cheshire said: "For our birthday this year, we want to bring smiles to the millions of UK doughnut fans who feel like they missed out on celebrations this year by offering the joy of an original glazed treat on us!”

The chain was founded in America on July 13, 1937 and its glazed doughnut was its first product.

Its current range includes a brand new doughnut for July - a strawberry iced - and it is also reintroducing some former signature doughnuts varieties: the nutty chocolatta; caramel iced and the original filled are making a return, with filling flavours set to change on rotation.

Also back is a Reese’s shell doughnut and a 'strawberries and Kreme' which has been given a new look.

Chillers, shakes and ice kreme are back on the menu too and the company also offers personalised boxes. For full information about terms and conditions see here.
