High-street giant Marks & Spencer have opened up an opticians service in their popular Newcastle store.

The Northumberland Street shop is one of the first in the country to benefit from the new service following a successful UK-wide trial.

Free eye tests are available as an opening offer, as well as 15% off glasses and sunglasses for Sparks customers.

The service includes a full eye health examination (OCT scan) for every eye test booked at no additional fee and the unit will also be home to a hearing aid audiologist.

The high-street retailer said there is a wide range of designer brands to choose from including Mulberry, Prada, Joules, Kate Spade, Oakley, Police, Maui Jim along with leading lens manufacturers - Zeiss and Nikon.

They've promised "expert advice" on contact lens fitting and the on-site audiologist will be offering free hearing health checks along with latest hearing aid technology, including rechargeable models and mobile connectivity.

The opening of the M&S Newcastle opticians service follows a successful trial across ten UK cities.

M&S said during the trial, they received a customer satisfaction rate of 96% and a customer recommendation rate of 96%.

The service will launch in 55 stores over the next 18 months, with the rollout set to be complete by April 2023.

The branches will be operated by Owl Optical, part of the Scrivens Group.

M&S Newcastle Store Manager, Rita Smith, said: “We’re always looking for ways to make shopping at M&S even more rewarding and feedback from our trial showed that customers loved the convenience of having an Opticians service in our store.

"We’re really excited to be opening our M&S Opticians in Newcastle and hearing what our customers think.

"The choice of different brands we’re offering is second to none and we have brilliant opening offers to suit all budgets.”
