Free daily tests scrapped today - how much will they cost and who won't pay

Boris Johnson has announced that free lateral flow tests to check whether you have Covid will be scrapped in England from April 1.

And in a move that wasn't announced the Government website has been changed today so you can no longer order a daily free supply of tests.

Instead you can now only order a batch every three days.

If you can't order the tests online, you can call 119 and request some - until April 1 - and they are also available at some pharmacies, schools and workplaces.

But according to the Daily Mail, from April 1 people in the UK face paying £3 per test - more than £20 for a box of seven.

Everyone will have to pay for a test - except vulnerable people in at-risk groups, people in hospital or care homes, and people who work in care settings.

According to the national paper, while we will pay £3 a test - in France people who fear they have Covid pay just £1.

And in Germany they cost £1.80 each.

In Spain the cost is £2.45 a time.

Across the EU free tests remain available - with people able to buy them if they want to.

The tests cost just pennies to make - but despite that shoppers in the USA pay £7.35 a time.

For now, people in the UK can still get free tests - and should be aware that tests have an expiry date of two years.
