Free concert being held to support Save Leith Walk's campaign to save shops

The Save Leith Walk campaign is holding a free concert this week in support of its campaign to save the shops threatened by closure.

Businesses at Stead's Place are having to move elsewhere as developers bring their leases to an end.

Leith Depot, one of the few businesses remaining at the site, is hosting the free show on Wednesday, August 28 starting at 7.30pm, with a number of acts on the line-up.

They say: "In the face of the continuing destruction of local community, we are showcasing some local talent.

"From political folk to performance poetry and everything in-between, together we stand up to the powers that be and say #opentheshops and #stopthedemolition."

You can find out more about the concert here.

A plan to demolish the building at Stead's Place to make way for a student flat led development was unanimously rejected at Edinburgh council, following a high-profile campaign from Save Leith Walk.

The controversial plans are currently subject to an appeal being considered by the Scottish Government.

Campaigners are also putting together a bid for a community buyout of the building and are gathering signatures on a petition to allow this to go ahead.
