Free breakfast tacos at Big Star's to-go window on Cinco de Mayo

April 27--Urgent taco news! Starting May 5, Big Star and Dove's Luncheonette will offer breakfast tacos out of Big Star's to-go window. On the first day of service (aka, Cinco de Mayo), they'll launch the whole shebang by giving away a free breakfast taco to every customer who comes between 9-11 a.m., or until supplies run out.

Chefs Julie Warpinski (Big Star) and Dennis Bernard (Dove's) aren't just tossing some eggs in a tortilla and calling it a day. The two have looked to the breakfast taco mecca in America -- Austin, Texas -- for inspiration. That means that each taco will be built on Dove's house-made flour tortillas.

Chicago taco enthusiasts understand that while we have many great tacos, our breakfast taco scene is extremely limited -- hence why this news is so exciting.

Currently, three tacos are on the menu:

Migas Taco ($3): tortilla chips drowned in salsa, eggs, pickled red onion and queso fresco

Huevos con Carne Taco ($4): grilled steak, peppers and onion with eggs and spicy tomato salsa Chorizo Verde Taco ($3): crispy potatoes, green chorizo and eggs

The one slightly sad part is that after Cinco de Mayo, the tacos will only be available Friday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Don't they understand that breakfast tacos taste great every day of the week?
