Free all key staff from C-charge, Shaun Bailey urges

Tory mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey today called for all key workers to be exempt from the congestion charge until the crisis ends.

NHS workers who enter the zone have the levy reimbursed and this has been extended temporarily to care home and ambulance workers.

Mr Bailey said police, firefighters and teachers should also be exempt to help them avoid public transport.

He also opposes the proposed hike in the charge from £11.50 to £15 and longer charging periods from June 22.

A spokeswoman for the Mayor said the Government had asked for changes as a condition of the recent funding deal, adding: “If Assembly Member Bailey doesn’t like it he needs to speak to the Government.”
