Free agent OL Stefen Wisniewski to visit Jets

After missing out on two big free agent centers, the Jets are scouring the market for some veteran help.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press’s Chris Tomasson, veteran guard and center Stefen Wisniewski is set to visit the Jets. However, no day has been set for that visit, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. The Vikings also reached out to him last week, but no deal was agreed upon.

The 29-year-old lineman was a second-round draft pick by the Raiders in 2011 out of Penn State. He played his rookie season at left guard and was part of one of the best rushing teams in the league. For that, Wisniewski was named to the Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie team. After the 2012 season, Wisniewski was moved to center.

He left Oakland in 2015 for Jacksonville and was its starting center for one season. After that, Wisniewski moved onto to Philadelphia. In his first season there, he started only six games, but he did make 11 starts in 2017. Wisniewski entered the 2018 season as the starting left guard for the Eagles, but was benched in Week 5. He remained on the bench until the final three weeks of the season when he was put back in the lineup. The Eagles declined his option, making him a free agent.

Interest in Wisniewski follows the Jets whiffing on Mitch Morse and Matt Paradis in free agency. Wisniewski can be used as a stop gap who allows the Jets to draft a center.
