Free agent LB Christian Kirksey visiting Packers

The Green Bay Packers will be hosting a free agent linebacker on Thursday.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, former Cleveland Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey is visiting the Packers after leaving his Wednesday visit with the Las Vegas Raiders without a deal.

The Browns released Kirksey, 27, on Tuesday.

A third-round pick out of Iowa, Kirksey emerged as an impact starting linebacker in Cleveland, producing 430 tackles, 27 tackles for losses, 11.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, 22 quarterback hits and four forced fumbles over 64 games and 45 starts between 2014-17.

Injuries wrecked his last two seasons. He played in just nine total games, including just two games in 2019.

The Packers are in need of help at inside linebacker, especially with Blake Martinez and B.J. Goodson both about to enter unrestricted free agency. The position needs a reboot. If healthy and at the right price, Kirksey could be the veteran the Packers need to take a step in the right direction in the middle of their defense.
