Report: Former Seahawks kicker Sebastian Janikowski retires after 18 seasons

Veteran kicker Sebastian Janikowski, who spent the 2018 season with the Seattle Seahawks, is retiring from the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The 41-year-old Janikowski will retire as the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, having spent 17 seasons with the Raiders before sitting out a year with a back injury and playing his final season in Seattle.

Janikowski converted 81.5 percent of his field goals (22-for-27) and 94.1 percent of his extra points (48-for-51) while with the Seahawks. He also converted on three game-winning field goals during the regular season.

However, Janikowski suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of Seattle’s loss to the Cowboys in the wild-card round, which likely played a part in his decision to retire.

Additionally, Janikowski had already been replaced by Jason Myers, whom Seattle signed to a four-year deal this offseason.

Myers competed with Janikowski for Seattle’s kicking job in training camp last summer, ultimately losing out before going on to make the Pro Bowl while with the Jets.
