Free agent Jameis Winston says goodbye to Tampa after Tom Brady’s arrival

After one of the most thrilling and maddening seasons in NFL history, Jameis Winston has been replaced as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ starting quarterback. In a move no one could have predicted even a few months ago, the Bucs signed six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady to a two-year deal worth $50 million, after Brady left the Patriots following his 20th season with the organization.

Winston led the NFL in passing yards last season with 5,109 and was second in touchdown passes with 33 – but also became the first NFL player in history to throw 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season, and as a result, doesn’t appear likely to land a starting job for 2020.

Winston became an unrestricted free agent this week, and on Saturday, he thanked the city of Tampa and said he looks forward to returning for Super Bowl LV next February.
