Free agent backup OT options for Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are expected to have two tackles in new spots this year with Terron Armstead sliding in on the left side and Austin Jackson flipping over to the right.

Armstead was brought in on a big-money deal to provide some stability and veteran leadership to a line that desperately lacked both in 2021. Jackson is moving to his third position in three seasons and is looking to prove himself worthy of the first-round selection that Miami used on him in 2020.

With the questions of Jackson’s talent and Armstead’s health and availability for a 17-game season, the third tackle spot is one that’s incredibly important for this team. Throughout training camp and preseason, Larnel Coleman, Greg Little, Kion Smith, Robert Jones, Kellen Diesch and Blaise Andries have been competing for that role, but it’s Coleman who’s been on the field the most.

Against the Las Vegas Raiders, Coleman played every offensive snap for the Dolphins, and even though it was against backups and roster hopefuls, the play wasn’t all that inspiring. This leaves many questioning whether or not Miami will dip back into free agency for tackle depth.

Luckily for them, there are still some decent options out there.
