Free agent Andrew Harrison signs training camp deal with Golden State

Free agent guard Andrew Harrison has signed a training camp deal with the Golden State Warriors, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who attributed the information to Harrison’s agent.

A University of Kentucky product and native of San Antonio, Texas, Harrison was drafted 44th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns.  But he was dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he played the first two seasons of his NBA career.

In the 2017-18 season, his second with the Grizzlies, Harrison put up career-best production:

23.7 minutes

9.5 points

3.2 assists

2.3 rebounds

But he appears to have struggled to carve a niche for himself and make himself invaluable to a franchise. He also has dealt with a lot of injuries, with Fox Sports reporting that he missed playing time between January and March 2018 due to left should soreness, illness and sore right wrist.

And while the Warriors were chasing a third-straight championship in 2018-19, Harrison suited up for three different teams, for a combined 17 games:

New Orleans Pelicans — 6 games

Cleveland Cavaliers — 10 games

Memphis Grizzlies — 1 game

As for his assets, Harrison played 56 games in his second Grizzlies season, starting 46 of them, and averaged 42.2% shooting from the field and 33.1% shooting from beyond the arc.

It will be interesting to see: 1) if he can return to that level and 2) if such a return, plus NBA experience, could trump what some of the younger players can offer a Warriors team in flux.
