Free activities for children that you usually pay for

With one week into school closures and the UK on lockdown, families across Merseyside and the rest of the country have been staying indoors to stop the spread of coronavirus.

As you can imagine, this has meant trying to find ways for parents to keep their kids amused and entertained.

Efforts to stop boredom setting in may well be a difficult task, but there are some options on hand to help stop your children climbing the walls.

Celebrities have been offering their services and products for free including David Walliams and Carol Vorderman as well as big brands including Amazon.

So here's some free things for the kids to do that you usually pay for.

Listen to David Walliams' stories

The actor, comedian and author is offering children the chance to listen to his stories for free.

David is releasing 30 daily audio stories for children to listen to for free at 11am every day for 30 days.

The stories are taken from his The World's Worst Children series.

You can listen to a different tale each day here.

Get the Maths Factor with Carol Vorderman

If your kids love to solve problems then the former Countdown presenter has a treat for them.

The mathematician is offering full access to her website The Maths Factor for free.

A message on the website says: "We will be making The Maths Factor FREE for everyone (usually about £2 per week) to support children's continued learning at home for the duration of the UK schools closure period. We want to help you and your child as much as we can."

Watch Amazon family shows

Amazon is making as many family and kids titles as we can free for all Amazon customers.

Popular shows include Peppa Pig and In the Night Garden plus Amazon Original titles including Jessy and Nessy, Pete The Cat and Just Add Magic.

There is no need for a Prime membership needed. Simply access the Prime Video app on your smart TV, mobile or desktop and log in with your Amazon details.

Listen to Audible audiobooks

Audible, also a part of Amazon is making hundreds of children's audiobooks available.

Their website says: "For as long as schools are closed, we're open. Kids everywhere can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids.

"All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. Explore the collection, select a title and start listening. It's that easy."
