Frederic Frans leaves Dundee United as Tannadice club terminate contract

Dundee United have agreed to terminate Frederic Frans’ contract.

The Belgian defender still had this season left on his Tannadice deal but has now come to an early settlement.

It will let the 30-year-old move on as a free agent after the window closes.

The former Partick Thistle player was signed by Csaba Laszlo but was deemed surplus to requirements under Robbie Neilson .

United’s first-choice pairing has been Mark Reynolds and Mark Connolly, with Callum Butcher dropping back one if either was missing.

So Frans has struggled to even make the Championship table-toppers's squad in recent months.

The former Belgium U20 centre back was close to a move to Leeds before he joined Partick Thistle but the move fell through after a change of manager.

He then moved to Thistle and made himself a fan's favourite in his 41 league appearances before returning to Lierse.

After two seasons back at his first club, he moved to Dundee United but has played just 20 times since joining in 2018.

Aberdeen were also previously interested in signing him while he was at Lierse but a deal couldn't be agreed.
