Freddie Woodman reveals plan to follow Sean Longstaff into first team at Newcastle United

Freddie Woodman has revealed he'd love to follow in the footsteps of Sean Longstaff into the first team at Newcastle United.

Woodman is currently on loan at Swansea City this season and is impressing at the Liberty Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship.

But he could not be more thrilled to see the 21-year-old thriving in the senior side.

Woodman spent time with Longstaff during a loan stint at Kilmarnock in 2017 and has always been close to the midfielder.

He told the Chronicle: "It's always my aim.

"It is absolutely brilliant for Sean to be in there now.

"I was with him on loan at Kilmarnock and there was great banter between us with everything that went on.

"I am realistic, Martin Dubravka was number 1, I loved working with him every day.

"He pushed me to be the best."

Woodman's CV is looking impressive again after 13 appearances for the Swans.

The Croydon-born stopper has now reached the end of his international commitments with the England Under-21 set-up but says it was a learning curve.

He said: "It's all stuff you can pick from with England.

"You keep learning.

"I have been fortunate to be in situations where there are big environments and situations.

"I've had that at Newcastle United and Aberdeen and England.

"It's been brilliant for me."
