Freddie Woodman produces yet more penalty heroics as he continues to impress away from Newcastle

Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman continued his impressive form on loan at Swansea City on Saturday as he saved his second penalty this week.

The former England under-21 international saved a spot kick from former Newcastle team-mate Aleksandar Mitrovic in midweek and despite conceding a last minute Fulham winner, he earned praise for his performance at Craven Cottage.

And the 22-year-old followed that up on Saturday, keeping out Danny Graham's effort from 12 yards as Swansea drew 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers.

His heroics have kept the Swans' slim hopes of reaching the Championship play-offs alive and he earned praise for his spot-kick heroics from Swansea boss Steve Cooper.

“It’s an excellent attribute to be saving penalties on a regular basis,” Cooper said of his young goalkeeper on Swansea's official website.

“It’s not luck. It’s something he works hard on.

“We love Freddie. He’s been brilliant for us and has shown his true worth this season, particularly this week.

“Let’s hope he doesn’t have any more to save, though!”

Woodman's contract at Newcastle expires at the end of next season and Swansea are keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

Newcastle's second and third choice goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot are both currently out of contract at the end of this season and it is expected Woodman will return to United this summer to compete with Martin Dubravka for the number one slot.
