Freddie Woodman is Rangers transfer 'target' as Michael Beale looks to solve Ibrox goalkeeper conundrum

Freddie Woodman is reportedly on Rangers ’ transfer radar.

Michael Beale is planning for the future between the sticks, with Allan McGregor out of contract and in line to retire at the end of the current campaign. Jon McLaughlin is second choice and 35, so Beale is on the lookout for a new No 1, with Robby McCrorie lacking experience of first team football at Ibrox.

Now Woodman, who has had loan spells in the Premiership with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, has emerged as a target according to the Scottish Sun. The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Newcastle United, who loaned him to Killie and the Dons before further temporary stints at Swansea City and Bournemouth. He left St James’ Park last summer and joined Preston North End. However, he is understood to be one of the higher earners at deepdale and the Lancashire club are prepared to listen to offers as they look to save some cash.

It’s thought Preston value Woodman at around £3.5million, with the keeper having two-and-a-half years left to run on his deal. The Ibrox club had a scout at North End's clash against Coventry City, in which Wood kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 stalemate.

Beale has already recruited from the English Championship this season. Todd Cantwell left Norwich City to pen a long term deal in Govan and the Gers boss could return to the English market to solve his issue in goa, especially if McGregor decides to call it a day in the summer.
