Freddie Starr's body flown back to Britain as kind stranger steps in to pay cost

Freddie Starr’s body has been repatriated to Britain after his death in Spain from a heart attack.

Relatives of the comedian feared he would end up with a pauper’s funeral in Malaga, but undertaker Michael Fogg has paid for the body to be flown back to Britain.

The funeral director, a fan of the comic, said it was an “honour”.

The Sheffield undertaker is also helping to organise the funeral. Starr had said he wanted to be buried near his mum in Liverpool. He was virtually penniless when he died this month at home aged 76.

Starr faced bankruptcy in 2015 after losing a court case against a woman who claimed he groped her when she was 15.

Instead of paying her legal fees, he liquidated his assets and left the UK for Spain.

His widow Sophie, 38, said he physically and mentally abused her.
