Freddie Starr funeral details confirmed as stranger pays for broke star's burial

The funeral of TV legend Freddie Starr will be held next week, it has been confirmed.

The comic will be laid to rest at Prescot Parish Church in Liverpool on Thursday, June 13, after a local funeral director stepped in to pick up the tab.

Freddie died from a heart attack at his Costa del Sol home aged 76 last month, and was found by his live-in carer Nelly Georgieva, 46.

There were fears the beloved broke comedian - who was estranged from his family - would be given a pauper's funeral in Spain.

However, funeral director Michael Fogg offered to pay £8,000 to bring Freddie's body back and cover the costs of a proper send-off.

Mr Fogg last night confirmed on his website that Freddie would be laid to rest in his hometown of Liverpool on Thursday, June 13 at 1pm.

In a post on his Facebook page, he said (sic): "We at Michael Fogg Family Funeral DIRECTORS.

“Together with Freddie's children would like to thank everyone for your comments and messages of support during this sad time.

The service will take place at Prescot Parish Church on Church Street in Prescot.

There will then be a private burial for family members only.

Freddie was one of the biggest stars of the 70s, 80s and 90s - and at the height of his fame earned an estimated £2m a year.

Fans loved his wacky, wild, and unpredictable behaviour.

But he had recently become a penniless recluse after a recent comeback bid flopped.
