Freddie Roach passes on Giants, re-joins Ole Miss instead

Late last week, it was reported that the New York Giants intended to hire Freddie Roach as their next defensive line coach. However, Roach apparently had a change of heart.

Ole Miss announced late on Friday night that Roach had opted to pass on the Giants, instead returning to their program in 2020 and potentially beyond.

A little background on roach, as were published previously:

Roach began his career at Alabama as a strength and conditioning coordinator from 2008-2010. In 2011, he joined East Mississippi Community College of “Last Chance U” fame as a defensive line coach/strength and conditioning coordinator.

In 2012, Roach coached the defensive line at Murray State before moving onto South Alabama from 2013-2014, overseeing the linebackers and defensive ends during that tenure. It was back to Alabama from 2015-2016, where he served as Director of Player Development before joining Ole Miss in 2017 as their defensive line coach.

During his time at Alabama, Roach crossed paths with both defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson and, more obviously, head coach Joe Judge.

Roach would have been an interesting and potentially solid addition for Joe Judge, but it’s back to the drawing board in this instance.
