Freddie Mercury tribute to rock the Rock as Dumbarton FC's resident entertainer

Far-travelled entertainer Jim Smart is hoping rock fans will go Radio Ga Ga about him as he gets set to take to the stage at Dumbarton FC.

The Freddie Mercury tribute act aims to rock The Rock when he performs at the Castle Road ground on Friday, December 3.

He has recently signed a new deal to become the League One team’s resident entertainer, which will also see events including an Abba and an 80s tribute night.

It marks a second exciting partnership for the club who have already teamed up with award-winning chef Chris Rouse who has been taking hospitality to a new level.

As well as running his own business Best Acts and local TV Station Loch Lomond TV, Jim has found great success travelling the country for 20 years performing as Freddie Mercury.

An 80s night, featuring Jim and friend Roberta Childs is scheduled for Saturday, November 20, with Freddie making an appearance, and the Abba night, starring Mary Jack, Lindsay Miller, Andy Hillan and Steve Rattigan scheduled for December 11.

Meals and drinks packages will be available at all events.

Jim is savouring the partnership with the Sons in the run up to their 150th anniversary and is glad to finally have a home fixture after taking to the road for much of his career so far.

He said: “It’s all about connecting with the community. That’s really important.

“There is nothing in the local area for people to go to, it’s just Glasgow. But with good transport links, this is the ideal place. I’ve travelled literally across the whole country for 20 years to places like Aberdeen, Dornoch and Dumfries so it’s great to be local. “

Jim is a member of Scotsoul, a local quintet harmony group who reached the Grand Final of BBC’s Pitch Battle.

In the second round they were crowned winners by Chaka Khan who joined them on stage to sing one of her greatest hits.

He is very excited to be working with the hospitality team at the club and is looking forward to many fun-filled nights at the stadium.

Jim added: “I‘m not a big football fan but enjoyed the Euros and hope to get along to some of the matches this season.”

The entertainer will also be filming content for the club’s forthcoming 150th anniversary through Loch Lomond TV.

Sonstrust Director Stephanie Park has hailed the new project and looks forward to the tie up.

She said: “There have been a lot of very positive changes at the club recently. We’ve brought in a new bar manager and chef who fitted the profile of the club.

“I am delighted Gary and Chris are settling in nicely and I’m happy to report very positive feedback on match day hospitality.

“It has been difficult as we have been hosting it in the boardroom due to restrictions.

“However, we’ve adapted the facilities and added some extras which is making the day really enjoyable. To add Jim Smart to our hospitality team is absolutely fantastic.

“Jim has years of experience in the entertainment industry and is bringing a very positive vibe to the function side of the club.

“Add that to Gary’s expertise in running events, I have no doubt the club will soon be back on the map as the place to go for great food and entertainment.”

Meanwhile Loch Lomond TV is set to fully launch next year.

Jim said: “It’s a community interest project which was set up to offer local programmes and give people the opportunity to make TV. It’s about creating opportunities.”
