Freddie Ljungberg sends strong message to Arsenal's defenders ahead of Brighton clash

Freddie Ljungberg has responded to criticism aimed at Arsenal's defending during the 2-2 draw against Norwich City at the weekend.

Not for the first time this season, the Gunners looked vulnerable at the back and both of the Canaries' goals in the first-half came when they caught the visitors cold on the counter attack.

If not for a wonderful save from Bernd Leno in the second half it easily could have been a defeat on Ljungberg's first game as interim head coach.

The north London outfit's defence will be put to the test against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night and Ljungberg has been speaking about the criticism from the Norwich game.

Whilst admitting that his players are trying to learn a new system, he has outlined one thing he doesn't want to see against the Seagulls.

"My players try to defend and you have different types of players in the squad," he said during his pre-match press conference.

"If players are not super quick it can be difficult to put out a structure.

"At Norwich sometimes it became a sprint and we want to stop that."

"I've watched the [Norwich] game twice and the general feeling is the same," Ljungberg added. "We had a problem transition-wise which we have to stop.

"I feels very good that we good into the pockets which was backed up by the data after the game."

It remains to be seen what central defenders Ljungberg picks against Brighton.

For the trip to Carrow Road he surprised many by handing Shkodran Mustafi his first Premier League appearance of the season alongside David Luiz.

For the clash against Brighton, Sokratis will be available as should Calum Chambers and Rob Holding.
